Santa Cruz Mountains, California
It's been a long dry spell throughout much of the western US during the past couple of years. Californians on the central coast are thrilled to see the forecast: rain likely every day this week. Even this junco appreciates it.
As winter approaches, this faded garden rose gets a bit of refreshment from the rain. Warmer temperatures and moisture ensure a final blaze of glory before the year's end.
As Mother Nature decorates the Mirabelle plum with raindrops, the tree draws moisture from the soil to use in next year's fruits. The last yellow leaves will soon drop as the tree approaches its time of rest and renewal.
